According to La Stampa newspaper, Juventus had even organised a party to celebrate Paulo Dybala’s contract extension before changing strategy and deciding to release him.

It was announced yesterday that the most recent meeting with Dybala’s agent was also the last, because after failing to agree terms on a new deal, the club didn’t even make another offer.

The Argentina international will leave as a free agent when his contract expires on June 30.

It was quite a turnaround from the situation only a few months ago, with La Stampa claiming Juventus had even organised a party to celebrate the contract extension of their Number 10, complete with gifts for his teammates in the locker room.

Things changed with poor overall team form in the final months of 2021, the on-going muscular injury problems for Dybala and the investment in Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina.

It’s reported the injuries were the biggest concern, with Juve initially offering a shorter contract of three years with option to extend, or to reduce the overall salary and replace it with bonuses based on the number of games he would play.

The rapport got more and more tense as the meetings kept getting postponed and following the Champions League exit, there was no more reason to stall.

  1. Juve have been trying to renew this guy contract since Sarri was the coach. it was always some reason or the other why he didn’t sign the contract. New management came in and they had enough of waiting so he’s gone.

  2. Incredible talent, always loyal. But played 50% of the time. Was never there for big matches as of recently. Too bad, Dybala and Vlahovic seem to have a great chemistry already. Could have been deadly

  3. Arrivabene said he knew in January that they wanted to let him go…so why dangle a carrot in front of him with the promise of contract negotiations?

He ruined Ferrari and now he is here to ruin Juve!!!

  4. his stats last couple of seasons are nothing special, he is missing important games and on top of it juve are 4th in the league for second year now with dybala being their leader.

  5. @Damir: Didn’t he win Player of the Year just 2 seasons ago? That wasn’t special enough for Your Majesty Damir Mustac?
