Failing to reach the Round of 16 of the Champions League has cost Juventus around €25m but they can redeem themselves in the Europa League.
The Bianconeri’s hopes of reaching the knock-out stages of the competition were entirely scattered when they suffered a bitter 4-3 defeat to Benfica earlier this week, leaving them third in Group H with one game left to play.
Massimiliano Allegri’s side are now likely to drop into the Europa League, although there’s a chance that Maccabi Haifa could beat them to the punch should they secure a better result against Benfica than Juventus do against Paris Saint-Germain.
As highlighted by Tuttosport, Juventus’ failure to reach the Round of 16 of the Champions League will cost them a revenue loss of €25m, but they can earn this back should they have a successful campaign in the Europa League.
Progressing to the Round of 16 of the Europa League would bring them €1.2m, which rises to a further €1.8m by reaching the quarter-finals. The semi-final spot is worth €2.8m and playing in the final would earn then €4.6m, with a further €4m added should they lift the trophy, making the total revenue gained €14.4m.
Considering the additions of the market pool and the box office takings, Juventus could earn around €25m total from the Europa League, although they’d need to win the competition, a much tougher ask than simply reaching the knock-out stages of the Champions League.
