Matías Viña and Granit Xhaka are close to joining Roma and here’s how the Giallorossi could line up with their new signings next season.

Viña’s transfer to the Stadio Olimpico is a done deal. The Palmeiras defender could arrive in the Capital on Thursday to undergo his medical examinations ahead of an €11m move plus up to €2.5m in bonuses.

Xhaka is on the verge of joining the Giallorossi, having already agreed personal terms with the Serie A giants.

According to several reports, the Gunners’ captain has already informed his club that he wants to join José Mourinho in Rome.

However, there is still no agreement between the two clubs, but Roma are confident they will eventually secure the services of the 28-year-old.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Xhaka would partner Jordan Veretout in the middle of the park in Roma’s 4-2-3-1 formation with Nicolò Zaniolo, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Henrikh Mkhitaryan behind a sole striker, which could be Edin Dzeko, Borja Mayoral or a third striker who the Special One would like to bring to the club.

Viña would replace Leonardo Spinazzola, who will remain on the sidelines for six months due to an Achilles tendon injury he sustained during UEFA Euro 2020.

Spinazzola was so good during the Euros, he was named in the Team of the Tournament by UEFA.

Rick Karsdorp, Gianluca Mancini and Chris Smalling would complete the Giallorossi’s four-man defence with new signing Rui Patricio between the sticks.
