Simone Inzaghi sat out a touchline ban against Roma and should not have had any contact with the Inter squad, but a few hints were dropped to suggest he bent the rules.

The coach was suspended due to an accumulation of yellow cards and sat in the press box to watch the game at the Stadio Olimpico.

With the Nerazzurri trailing 2-1 at half-time, it was supposed to be assistant manager Massimiliano Farris giving the half-time team talk.

However, in post-match interviews, Alessandro Bastoni confessed that it was Inzaghi who raged at the squad during the break.

Farris tried to make up for it by insisting it was “not a videocall, but a message was communicated to the staff” by Inzaghi.

This is technically still against the rules, but frankly impossible to police in this day and age of smart phones.

It was perhaps more difficult for Inzaghi to hide considering he was sitting in the press box, as La Gazzetta dello Sport noted that the coach was audibly talking on the phone about ‘wing-backs’ during the break.

Whatever and indeed however the message got through, it worked, because Inter came roaring back from 2-1 down to win 4-2.
