The 27-year-old came close to joining Inter in January 2020, but a swap deal with Matteo Politano collapsed when both players had already arrived in their new cities.
According to reports in Italy, Spinazzola and Politano should have joined their new clubs on loan with option o buy, but the two clubs did not reach an agreement over the clause to make the players’ moves permanent at the end of the season.
Other reports, suggested Spinazzola didn’t complete his move to Inter because of his poor fitness, but the former Juventus winger proved them wrong.
“You can say I am not a good footballer, but not that I am not fit,” he said back in April.
“Something changed after that week, also on a mental level. I used to be demotivated, but after that collapsed move, I boosted my self-confidence and I found myself.
“It’s a lie to say that I am always injured, I paly for Roma and Italy, I played for Juventus and Atalanta, I am feeling well and it makes me angry to hear I am not fit.”
“I’ve already said in some interviews that that failed transfer has motivated me. I’ve changed many things since then,” Spinazzola added after Roma’s 5-1 win over Bologna in December.
“I’ve changed my dentist, I do exercise every day, I do muscle reinforcement, I’ve changed everting, sometimes I am not tired after games, after 90 minutes I can still go ahead.”
Spinazzola returns to action after an injury, and Paulo Fonseca has confirmed he will start against Inter today.
