Genoa coach Alberto Gilardino will have to find a way to replace Tottenham signing Radu Dragusin ahead of his side’s coming Serie A clash with Torino.
The 21-year-old Romanian centre back officially joined the North London side on Thursday, moving in a transfer worth €25m plus €6m in add-ons. He penned a six-and-a-half-year contract with Spurs, declining an offer from Bayern Munich in order to push through a move.
Dragusin had proved himself a key part of Gilardino’s defence at Genoa, leaving a gaping hole in the club’s backline at the halfway point of the season. The Ligurian outfit did well in the first half, picking up 21 points from five wins and six draws.
In his press conference today, Gilardino highlighted some of the options available to him for Genoa’s three-man defence, including Koni De Winter, Johan Vazquez, Alan Matturro, Mattia Bani and Alessandro Vogliacco.
The coach also made it clear that he’d like a new centre back to join the club, giving him more flexibility with players like Vazquez and Aaron Martin.
