Genoa President Enrico Preziosi explains how he beat Chelsea to the signature of Slovenian sensation Luka Kranjc.

This week the club agreed a deal for the 16-year-old Maribor defender, who had also been in negotiations with the Stamford Bridge side.

“Kranjc will be here on Friday for his medical. The agreement has already been reached, the player and clubs signed,” Preziosi told Telenord.

“How did we beat Chelsea to the player? In these situations it's always a matter of money, but we above all managed to get the upper hand thanks to the confidence the lad's family has in us.

“Sometimes simply being called Chelsea or another famous club suggests a little arrogance. There was a financial difference in the proposals, but we covered that and the player is coming to Genoa.

“Next season there will be many more young players in the side. It is a problem in Serie A that there is very little patience or tolerance in allowing them to grow, as people want results straight away.”
