Roma are on the verge of signing Matias Soulé from Juventus, and the Argentinean is expected to take a starting spot on the right wing. However, he could also play as an attacking midfielder or support striker.

Soulé is ready to become a new Roma player after the Giallorossi and Juventus reached an agreement over a €30m deal including add-ons.

Soulé has been pushing for a move to the Stadio Olimpico, where he will reunite with his compatriots Paulo Dybala and Leandro Paredes.

Soulé scored 11 goals in 36 Serie A appearances at Frosinone in 2023-24, his first full season in Italy’s top flight. An attacking right winger, Soulé is expected to become a starter in Daniele De Rossi’s 4-3-3 system, with Paulo Dybala moved to the opposite flank.

How does Soulé fit in at Roma? Three options for De Rossi

La Joya has mostly played on the right flank under De Rossi, but the ex-midfielder has given Dybala the freedom to roam in the final third and his Sofascore heatmap from Serie A games in 2023-24 shows how the Argentinean often cut into the middle of the park to create goal-scoring opportunities to the Giallorossi.

Like Dybala, Soulé is a left-footed attacking player, so if he starts on the right flank, he will likely cut inside the pitch looking for goals or assists with his favourite foot.

On paper, Soulé will replace Stephan El Shaarawy in Roma’s XI, joining Dybala and a new centre forward up front.

However, De Rossi could even go for a 4-2-3-1 formation with Soulé, Dybala and El Sha behind a sole striker.

Another role Soulé can play is support striker, a position he already covered under Eusebio Di Francesco at Frosinone.

Soulé scored two goals in 11 games for Frosinone when playing as a striker, but he undoubtedly gave his best on the right wing with eight goals and one assist in 22 games with the Ciociari.
