Massimiliano Allegri and the Juventus managed decided to bring the squad in for a training retreat after their Champions League loss to Maccabi Haifa, hoping to right the ship in Turin.

The Bianconeri squad returned from their embarrassment in Israel on Wednesday of this week and carried out a training session in Continassa before heading home. The following day, the squad returned to the training centre, where they carried out double training sessions and slept at the nearby J-Hotel.

All of the Juventus squad had to stay at J-Hotel, except for the injured players, who were allowed to return home. Last night, Mattia De Sciglio stayed but Angel Di Maria decided to return home.

The training retreat, or ‘ritiro’, is a common thing in Italian football and is used by coaches and clubs to try and escape a period of bad form with intensive work on the training ground. The idea is that it helps restore focus for players and further build a team spirit.
