Erik ten Hag insists Manchester United were ‘happy’ to sign Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta last summer, especially because there was a ‘shortage of good options.’

Hojlund joined Machester United from Atalanta for a reported €75m fee plus €10m add-ons in the 2023 summer transfer window. The Denmark international had scored ten goals in 34 appearances with La Dea in his first and only season in Bergamo.

The 21-year-old had a slow start at Manchester United, but has still managed seven goals in 20 Premier League games so far and is among the most prolific players in Europe’s top five leagues in 2024.

He is currently out of action with a muscle injury, but the Red Devils coach, ten Hag, confirmed the club’s satisfaction with the ex-Atalanta star.

“There was real shortage on good options. That is why we were very happy to sign Rasmus Hojlund, who is a player at the level of Manchester United,” he told reporters on Sunday as quoted by Goal.com.

Atalanta replaced Hojlund with Charles De Ketelaere from Milan and Gianluca Scamacca from West Ham. The Belgian striker has ten goals and seven assists in 29 games across all competitions this season, while the Italian forward has netted seven times in 25 matches, providing three assists.
