Hojlund quintupled transfer value in under a year

The Rasmus Hojlund move from Atalanta to Manchester United is a record profit for La Dea and means he has quintupled his transfer value in under a year, multiplying it by 42 times in 18 months.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the fees agreed in the verbal deal amount to €75m upfront plus up to another €10m in various performance-related bonuses and add-ons.

That would take the total to €85m, circa £73m for the Premier League side.

It blows the previous club record sale out of the water, which saw Atalanta send Cristian Romero to Tottenham Hotspur for €50m plus bonuses in 2021.

It has been a remarkable rise for Hojlund, who only celebrated his 20th birthday in February and has earned comparisons with Manchester City star Erling Haaland.

Going through Brondby and Holbaek academies to reach FC Kobenhavn in 2017, he was sold to Austrian club Sturm Graz in January 2022 for €1.95m.

Within seven months, he had already boosted his transfer value to the €17.2m that Atalanta paid in August 2022.

Now not even a year on from that, he has been sold for a total of circa €85m, which is five times the sum that La Dea paid last summer.

If we consider the last 18 months, Hojlund has multiplied his transfer value by over 42 times from €1.95m to €85m.

Atalanta have done extraordinary business on this deal, especially as Hojlund only made 34 competitive appearances for them, scoring 10 goals and providing four assists.

Of those 34 matches between Serie A and the Coppa Italia, he only started 20.
