Wesley Hoedt admits he ‘made a mistake leaving Lazio’ for Southampton and jumped at the chance when Simone Inzaghi asked him to return.
The defender already played at the Stadio Olimpico from 2015-17 before his move to Southampton.
“When the coach called me a few weeks ago, we talked about various things,” said Hoedt in his press conference.
“Inzaghi was very important in my decision and he asked me to come back here. I know there are going to be doubts around me, but I’ll give my all for this jersey and these fans.

“I made a mistake in leaving Lazio, I am the first to admit it, but you do make mistakes in life. I’m happy that I get a chance to do it all over again.
“I’ve also gained three years of experience abroad, am certainly more mature as a person and a player. Now it’s up to me to prove it.”
Lazio director Igli Tare also explained the reasoning behind the move for Hoedt late into the transfer session.
“It was a decision we shared with the coach. We were looking for a centre-back who understood the Italian language and our way of playing football. I am convinced he’ll prove to be a great acquisition.”
