Ottmar Hitzfeld concedes “it was incredible” for Switzerland to beat Ecuador with the last kick of the game.
Ecuador had taken the half-time lead, but substitutes Admir Mehmedi and Haris Seferovic turned it all around.
“It was incredible to win this match,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.
Valon Behrami was also decisive, as in stoppages the Napoli man first blocked a certain Ecuadorian goal, then immediately sparked the winning counter-attack.
“The team reacted so well and we proved that we’ve got real quality. With a bit of luck too, we picked up all three points.
“It was above all a complicated day for us in the air. We started off badly, didn’t move the ball around well in midfield and suffered under enormous pressure.
“We played our football, though, and with moves practiced in training were able to score two important goals.”
Hitzfeld will retire after this World Cup, making way for ex-Lazio Coach Vladimir Petkovic.
