Juventus have reportedly decided to part ways with Gonzalo Higuain but the Argentine forward has made a pact with Maurizio Sarri for the run-in.
La Gazzetta dello Sport claims the Old Lady coach has helped Higuain find his feet again in Serie A, protecting him from the constant rumours of a move and helping him during a difficult time, concerned about his ill mother.
And the report claims the two have agreed a ‘pact’ for the remaining of the season, to solely focus on ending their stint together on a high and putting the assessment of the striker’s future aside for now.
Juventus want the money from a potential sale and freeing themselves from his contract worth €7.5m a year until June 2021, a salary that could also complicate matters for possible suitors.
The player has been linked with LA Galaxy and DC United from the MLS, but could return to River Plate, where he started his career in Buenos Aires.
Higuain was at his finest under Sarri at Napoli, scoring 92 goals in 147 games after his €39m move from Real Madrid in July 2013.
The 32-year-old then moved to Juventus for €90m in July 2016 and has picked up two Scudetti and two Coppa Italia with the Bianconeri.
He was loaned out to Milan ahead of the 2018-19 season, before moving to Chelsea, following Sarri to London.
The current Juventus coach brought him back in contention at the Allianz Stadium and Higuain has contributed five goals and four assists in his 23 Serie A matches this term, possibly his last with Juventus.
