The Argentinian's run of goals was finally broken against the Juventus defence last Saturday evening, when the Partenopei lost 1-0.

Now they will be facing Villareal on Thursday, though rumours suggest Higuain will be rested.

“I haven't spoken with El Pipita about the Villareal game, but I'm sure he'll want to play to work out his anger,” said his brother and agent Nicolas Higuain in an interview with Radio CRC.

“I haven't asked Gonzalo whether [Coach Maurizio] Sarri will let him play, but knowing him as I do, he'll want to fix things right away by winning and scoring.

“Of course all opponents aim to mark Higuain closely as he scores in every game. But I'd say he always finds the winning move anyway.

“Gonzalo can still grow. He trains well, he's happy, and everything will be down to him.

“He's focused on Napoli, on the Scudetto and the Europa League. This isn't the time to discuss the transfer market because Gonzalo is chilled and single-minded.

“The Golden Boot? It would be nice, but it's a tough target given the defensive solidity of Italian teams. What would be nicer would be for Napoli to win the championship.”
