However, Jorge Higuain assures his son, who has 26 goals in all competitions this season, wants to stay in Italy.

“There are many teams interested in Gonzalo,” he told El Crack Deportivo.

“However, he has a three-year contract with Napoli, and I don’t think he’ll leave.”

Higuain senior also discussed the striker’s spat with Parma goalkeeper Antonio Mirante, for which he was fined €10,000.

“There was an argument, but these things happen on the pitch and it should have ended there.

“To fine him is a robbery, I don’t understand that decision, it’s totally out of place. Referees make mistakes and aren’t punished, but we focus on one player and his argument.

“These decisions are made by people sitting behind a desk, who don’t even know how to bounce a ball.”
