The rumours of Liverpool staging a mid-season bid for Higuain had already emerged in the British media in recent weeks.
According to TeleCapri reporter Antonello Gallo, he heard from “a very reliable source that Liverpool are preparing an offer worth at least £31m (over €41m) for Higuain in January.
“According to this same source, Jackson Martinez would be ‘proud’ to join Napoli. I won’t comment other than to say let history be the judge…”
It would not be the first time Napoli have been close to Colombia international Jackson Martinez, who is currently firing in goals for Porto.
His price-tag was put at €30m, so selling Higuain would bring in the necessary funds.
There are increasing reports that Higuain is unhappy in Naples and his position is firmly linked with the possible exit of Rafa Benitez.
