The Partenopei are on a four-match winning streak in all competitions, and sit just three points from the summit of Serie A.

Maurizio Sarri’s side face Midtjylland in the Europa League this evening, and the Argentinian international believes the Vesuviani can go far in the competition.

“Napoli haven’t won anything for years,” Higuain noted in an interview with Ekstra Bladet, perhaps discounting last year’s Supercoppa Italiana in favour of the Coppa Italia won the previous season.

“At the moment we’re getting closer. We can win the Europa League, we have the ability to do so. We want to write a chapter in the history of this club.

“I’m very happy at Napoli.

“Diego Maradona? It [the memory of him] doesn’t create pressure, in fact there’s a special love toward Argentinians thanks to him.

“Maradona will never be forgotten in Naples, and I’m proud to be Argentine because of that.”

Despite talk of winning the Europa League, Higuain assures that Midtjylland won’t be underestimated.

“We know Midtjylland are champions of Denmark, and they beat Club Brugge away, so they’re a side we respect.

“We’re facing an opponent who have won their first two group matches, so if we were to lose they’d have the advantage over us and we don’t want that to happen.

“We want to qualify as soon as possible. We want to win every competition we take part in.”
