Huge salaries are also an issue, so players such as Matuidi, Khedira and Higuain are precisely the ones who new coach Andrea Pirlo intends to prune from the team.

However, according to the Corriere dello Sport, both Khedira and Higuain are so far refusing to accept an early termination by mutual consent.

If they do, then it’ll only be with a hefty bonus.

Higuain earns €7.5m per season net, while Khedira isn’t far behind on €6m per year.
