Hearts defender Aaron Hickey is undergoing his Bologna medical today before completing the €2m transfer. ‘The club has a nice family feel to it.’

The 18-year-old chose the Rossoblu rather than Bayern Munich or Celtic, telling BBC Sport it wasn’t just the promise of regular first team football that convinced him.

“Celtic offered me a contract a few times. I’m a Celtic fan and much as that was appealing I just don’t feel as if football-wise that was the right decision for me at this stage,” Hickey told the Daily Record.

“I think I have definitely made the right decision for me and my future.

“It’s really exciting to be going over to Italy and you can’t lose sight of the fact that Bologna are a massive club as well, in Serie A.

“It’s a club that has a nice family feel to it. I went over for a look at the stadium and facilities and thought, ‘yeah, this feels really good.’

“Everybody was really friendly and the manager Sinisa Mihajlovic was nice. He really sold the club to me. The club had a real family feel to it.

“The supporters and the media have been good to me as well, so it feels like the right choice.”
