Hernanes says ‘there are no excuses’ and Juventus must start winning immediately.

The Bianconeri have lost their opening two matches of the season, which most have put down to new players needing time to settle.

However, the midfielder, himself a new arrival, is in no mood to accept anything less than three points against Chievo on Saturday.

“There are two things to talk about,” Hernanes told Sky when asked if the team needs time to settle.

“If we’re talking about the level we play at, then it might take some time to know each other and do things by heart.

“However, in terms of the results, there are no excuses and we have to start picking up three points.

“We’re ready, we’ve been working well in the last few days. I think we’ve reached a good level of physical condition, and we’re ready.”

Hernanes was also asked whether the Italian players at the club, such as captain Gianluigi Buffon, had told him about what it means to play for the Old Lady.

“No, I knew about the club’s DNA right away, without being told. The Italian players were very welcoming. I always say that about Italian players, because they’re used to welcoming foreigners.

“The mentality of work was the first impression I got. Here you work on everything, focusing absolutely on performance. That’s the mentality at this club.”

Despite the two early defeats, the Brazilian international is still confident Juve can have a great season in Serie A and in Europe.

“I’d say that Juve are still the team to beat,” Hernanes said.

“We haven’t started well, but this is still the best team, with a strong foundation. So I think this is still the best team in Italy.

“The Champions League? At Juve you have to try and win everything, so we’re definitely one of the favourites.”
