New Juventus signing Hernanes insists he’s arrived as a trequartista – ‘that’s where I expect to play’.

The midfielder joined from Inter for €11m yesterday, and has played in a variety of roles in his time in Italy, including as a deep-lying playmaker.

Bianconeri Coach Max Allegri had been requesting someone to play behind the strikers all summer, and the Brazilian insists that’s his best role.

“I’ve played in a lot of positions,” Hernanes admitted, speaking to Juve’s official website.

Bianconeri Coach Max Allegri had been requesting someone to play behind the strikers all summer, and the Brazilian insists that’s his best role.

“I’ve played in a lot of positions,” Hernanes admitted, speaking to Juve’s official website.

“But for a while now I’ve decided that I want to play at trequartista, so that’s where I see myself and that’s where I expect to play.

“It’s the position I think suits me best, after trying a lot of roles. It means I’m closer to the goal.”

The former Lazio man also admitted the presence of a number of his compatriots in Turin will help him to settle quickly.

“I know Neto well, we’ve played together for Brazil. I know Alex Sandro too, and I’ve played against Rubinho before.

It’s good that they’re here, so they can help me settle in a bit more easily. I’ll talk to them over the coming days.

“I’m happy to be here.

“I have great expectations about what I can achieve in this shirt. I hope for the best for myself, my teammates and the club.

“What attracted me to Juventus is the size of the club, and the fact they keep winning year after year. I want to be a pillar of the side and help Juve win even more.”
