The Uruguayan international is expected to be a wanted man should the Rosanero fail to survive in the top flight.

“I want to respect the three years that I have left on my contract,” the South American told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

“That’s because I’d like to thank President Maurizio Zamparini and the medical staff here.

“There was a bit of a problem because my former agent did speak to other clubs about me, but I want to stay here.”

The striker, 22, has missed most of the season after damaging knee ligaments, but he is close to a comeback.

“If everything goes well then I’ll return to training with my teammates on Monday,” he explained. “I should be back in action two weeks later.”
