The Nerazzurri players were initially banned from travelling due to coronavirus, but the ATS of Milan eventually allowed the international players to travel for international duty.

During the press conference ahead of tonight’s match against Israel in the World Cup qualifiers, the Dane spoke about the experience in recent days.

“They were very hectic days,” Eriksen said. “Before the weekend it was practically a no, then we started getting closer to the weekend and it became more and more a yes.

“In the end, the yes arrived on Monday and I was ready to go.”

The 29-year-old, who has started four of the last six games in Serie A, explained that he has spent a lot of time negotiating over the phone.

“I talked a lot on the phone,” he continued. “I talked to both the national team manager and the club and the team.

“There was a lot of talking over the phone and in the end everything went well. Everyone is fine and that’s the most important thing.

“I’m incredibly happy to be here.”
