Gian Piero Gasperini has often said his favourite goal is when the fifth man on one wing sets up the fifth on the other, and it happened twice tonight, with Hateboer and Robin Gosens assisting each other.
“We came here to win the game and we played a truly excellent first half. Winning 4-1, it’s a good start to the season,” Hateboer told Sky Sport Italia.
Exactly like last season, La Dea went 3-0 up at the Stadio Olimpico, but back then Lazio were able to claw their way back for a 3-3 draw.
“We all know what happened and we talked about it during the break. We knew that once they scored one goal, they could get more, but this time we added a fourth and killed off the game.
“The squad hasn’t really changed much since last term and that has allowed us to grow in our confidence. It’s a strength that we know each other so well.”
Does that mean Atalanta are contenders for the Scudetto?
“It’s too early to talk about that.”
