Atalanta full-back Hans Hateboer was forced to stop training due to an injury setback and could be out for two to three months if he has to undergo surgery.

The Dutch defender was back in the group but was again forced to stop training due to discomfort in the fifth metatarsal of the left foot.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports Hateboer might have to undergo surgery and will fly home on Monday for another consultation.

The report believes the microfracture requires surgery at this point and highlights that the recovery times vary between two to three months.

The 27-year-old, who arrived from FC Groningen in January 2017, has established himself as a vital member of Gasperini’s squad and has collected 164 competitive appearances across all competitions with La Dea.

Chelsea full-back Davide Zappacosta has emerged as a possible target for Atalanta to replace Hateboer.
