The 3-1 first leg result at the San Paolo proved decisive, because Piotr Zielinski and Lorenzo Insigne grabbed a 2-0 away win at the Red Bull Arena, going out on away goals.
“I said yesterday this was going to be a tough game and I was not kidding,” said the tactician in his Press conference.
“They took a lot of risks and showed their quality. Napoli created a lot of problems for our defence and after the opening goal, the mentality of the game changed.
“We thought at half-time of how to improve our positioning and it was better, but that used up a lot of energy and Napoli kept blocking us with double marking or tactical fouls.
“I tried to change a few things, but the team wasn’t playing with the same calm and Napoli scored a second goal. Playing a team like that is certainly an important experience and I am very proud to knocked out such a prestigious club as Napoli.
“We lost tonight, and are not too satisfied with that result, but we have to take into account what a strong side Napoli are. I was really impressed with their quality and think they can win the Scudetto.
“After the match, I complimented Maurizio Sarri on their performance, but for us to eliminate Napoli is a huge deal. They showed us our limitations today and we saw what we are lacking, but the important thing was to qualify.”
