Jorginho hardly made an impact in Chelsea’s painful Champions League knockout to Real Madrid yesterday and it might have been his last European game for the Blues.

The 30-year-old Italian-Brazilian was brought on in the 106th minute of the match in place of Mateo Kovacic and he barely made a difference to the game, only managing to scuff a shot and waste a vital chance in the dying minutes of the match.

Jorginho is at a strange point in his career following the heights of 2021, when he picked up both the Euro 2020 title with Italy and the Champions League with Chelsea. Last year he was jokingly suggested for the Ballon d’Or but now it seems as if he may be sold by the Blues in the summer.

The Italy international’s contract expires with the West London side in 2023, so if they don’t renew his deal then they’d need to sell him in the summer in order to pick up a decent fee. His agent recently hinted at a possible return to Serie A should his deal not be renewed.

Jorginho agent on ‘Chelsea philosophy’ and Juventus links

12 months ago Jorginho was experiencing the heights of European competition with Chelsea, but now he’s at genuine risk of never appearing in the competition for the Blues again.

  1. I never understood the Ballon d’Or nomination. And after his blown chances to gain Italy World Cup advancement I imagine his stock has dropped.
