Handanovic’s performance ‘an embarrassment’ as Inter ‘overwhelmed’ by Milan

The Italian press highlighted Simone Inzaghi’s poor substitutions and called Samir Handanovic’s performance ‘an embarrassment’ in Inter’s 2-1 derby loss to Milan.

The Nerazzurri took the lead after 38 minutes thanks to Ivan Perisic, but two quick goals from Olivier Giroud in the 75th and 78th minutes secured the three points for Stefano Pioli’s side, who now sit only one point behind their intercity rivals in the league table.

Corriere dello Sport felt as if Inzaghi’s substations caused Inter to “no longer have control of the match”, and they also called Handanovic’s performance “an embarrassment”. Tuttosport noted that Handanovic’s made “a very serious mistake for the importance it could have” in the title race. The Turin paper also noted that Inzaghi’s work paid off in the first half but the team fell due to being “overwhelmed by events.”
