Samir Handanovic looked for answers after Inter’s incredibly disappointing 3-1 loss to Udinese this afternoon.
The Nerazzurri took the lead only minutes into the match thanks to a free kick from Nicolo Barella, but they soon lost their way at the Dacia Arena. Milan Skriniar scored an own goal before the end of the first half and two late goals from Jaka Bijol and Tolgay Arslan. It was Inter’s third defeat in their first seven league matches, a worrying sign entering the international break.
Speaking to Sky Sports Italia, Handanovic first reacted to Inter’s tough 3-1 defeat to Udinese.
“First of all, congratulations to Udinese, they deserved to win and they won everything there was to win, starting with the duels.
“They were more intense than us, then it has to be said that until 1-1 it was in the balance. Usually those who want it more deserve it more. Let’s say they did a lot more than us, they deserved to win.”
He reflected on the Nerazzurri’s three league defeats this season, all of which saw them concede three goals after taking the lead.
“They were different matches, but in the end the result was the same. When these things happen it’s not good, you have to analyse what’s going on and do little talking.”
The Slovenian veteran attempted to explain the source of team’s defensive issues this campaign.
“The team when defending does it as ten plus the goalkeeper. We have lost the compactness we had before, then it depends on many things, if you make technical mistakes and lose the ball you are open, you’re at risk.
“Today we conceded two goals from set pieces, it means there’s a lack of focus. And then we knew, things are studied. When things happen it’s easy to analyse, but everything is clear.”
Finally, Handanovic confirmed that he had no issues being rotated with fellow Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana.
“No, I’m a serious professional since I’ve been doing this job. I know what my job is, us players have to train and prepare well, then the coach chooses.
“I’m not a problem for Inter, I can be a solution. when others are playing I’m not here to gloat, I cheer on whoever is playing.”
