Veteran Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic will have a meeting with the club to discuss his future options after the conclusion of the Champions League final on June 10, with a potential upheaval over the summer in the Nerazzurri’s shot-stopping department on the cards.

The former Slovenia international will turn 39 in July and his current contract is set to expire exactly a fortnight before then. Many had expected this to be the captain’s final season between the sticks for Inter.

Inter’s ultras had also recently unfurled a banner at one of this season’s final home games at San Siro thanking Handanovic for his commitment to the club over his 11-year spell with the club, indicating that they, too, thought that he would be on his way out by the end of June.

However, it appears that an extension of Handanovic’s contract is not completely off the table, and his future could depend on what happens with first choice ‘keeper Andre Onana over the summer.

According to Calciomercato, Inter are preparing themselves for a potential big-money offer for Onana from Chelsea in the upcoming summer transfer window.

If the offer does come through, Inter could fetch a profit in the region of €40m given that Onana joined the club on a free transfer in July last year.

Calciomercato writes that in the event that Onana leaves, Inter would be reluctant to part ways with Handanovic as well, as having to bring two new goalkeepers in over the summer would not be an ideal situation.

Before anything is decided, however, Inter will play against Manchester City in the final of the Champions League in Istanbul in two weeks’ time and shortly afterward, will sit down with Handanovic for discussions over his future.
