Samir Handanovic maintains Inter ‘lost the derby’ rather than Milan winning. ‘The final 15 minutes were all wrong.’

The Nerazzurri had dominated the first half, taking the lead through an Ivan Perisic cushioned volley on a corner, but Mike Maignan made numerous big saves.

They proved decisive, as after the break Olivier Giroud bagged a quick-fire brace to seal Milan’s 2-1 victory.

“We did everything ourselves today,” confessed Handanovic on Inter TV and DAZN.

“It wasn’t so much that Milan won, but rather Inter that lost. We had the game in hand, we played well and pinned them back, then tried to wait for our chances on the counter in the second half, but lost a few too many balls and were punished.

“The final 15 minutes were all wrong, but there were positives from the game too, as we had the chances to score more. It was the usual Inter other than those 15 minutes.”

Handanovic let one of the Giroud finishes squirm under his hand, so does he have regrets?

“A goalkeeper can always do better when he concedes. We need to watch those 15 minutes back and work out why we got it so wrong.”
