Samir Handanovic gave a speech to the Inter squad before watching Andre Onana start his first Serie A game in the win over Sassuolo.

The Nerazzurri picked up the 26-year-old Cameroonian on a free transfer in the summer, believing he’d be the right option to replace Handanovic as he enters his final few years with the Milanese club. The 38-year-old Slovenian has played over 400 games for Inter since his arrival a decade ago but now his time as number one is drawing to a close.

As highlighted by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Handanovic took to the floor at the Inter dressing room to give a speech to the squad before kick off against Sassuolo, where he commented on the importance of team spirit and remaining careful and humble in defence.

Coach Simone Inzaghi had been starting Handanovic in Serie A and Onana in the Champions League, but this changed yesterday as the Cameroonian was given the nod to make his Serie A debut against the Neroverdi.

It was a symbolic moment for the Nerazzurri as they enter a new era with Onana between the sticks, ready to become the new number one in the Lombardy capital.
