Samir Handanovic warns the Champions League Final ‘will be tough for Manchester City’ as well as Inter, but insists he doesn’t yet know if this was his last game for the club.
The goalkeeper started this evening’s 1-0 win away to Torino, which is the final match of the Serie A campaign, a fixture decided by the Marcelo Brozovic solo strike from distance.
It means they end the season with 11 wins from their last 12 matches in all competition, the ideal way to prepare for the Champions League Final against Manchester City in Istanbul on June 10.
“We are in good shape, even if it was the last game of the Serie A season, we wanted to end well and put quality onto the pitch. We were always in control and deserved the victory,” Handanovic told DAZN.
Inter have already won the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana in back-to-back seasons, but it is their first Champions League Final since 2010.
Manchester City have never won the Champions League, but today beat Manchester United 2-1 to secure the FA Cup and put them on the verge of the Treble.
“Let’s say it is a more difficult exam for a player, the Champions League Final is the top of the top. We need the best performance of the season, or even of our lives, but it’ll be tough for them too, I think.”
Handanovic was replaced by Alex Cordaz, as is traditional for the last game of the season, but was this his final appearance in the Inter jersey?
“I don’t know, there is still a work to prepare for the game, then we’ll think about personal matters. I don’t know yet.”
