Inter have collected just one point in the last three games while Samir Handanovic and Lautaro Martinez are being blamed after the Nerazzurri’s 2-0 loss against Sassuolo.

The Serie A champions had suffered just one defeat in league games until two weeks ago, but their derby loss against Milan was followed by a draw at Napoli and a home defeat against Sassuolo.

Their disappointing results over the last few weeks allowed Milan to remain on top of the table with a two-point lead. Napoli could leapfrog Inter and join the Rossoneri if they beat Cagliari away tonight and although Inzaghi’s men have a game in hand, their potential advantage on their rivals is of just one point.

Italian sports papers and Inter fans on social media have criticised Samir Handanovic and Lautaro Martinez after Inter’s 2-0 loss against Sassuolo yesterday. The experienced goalkeeper has been accused of giving Sassuolo’s opener away too easily and was rated 5.5/10 by La Gazzetta dello Sport and 4.5 by both Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport.

Lautaro, on the other hand, got 4/10 on all three Italian sports papers.

The Argentinean apologised to Inter’s Curva after the final whistle. He hasn’t yet scored a goal in 2022 and has gone 13 matches without finding the net in the Champions League.

‘What’s going on with him?’ asked La Gazzetta dello Sport, who described the Argentinean as ‘regressed’. Il Corriere dello Sport pointed out that the 24-year-old had missed an easy chance adding that he ‘mirrors Inter’s negative moment.’
