Marek Hamsik sees victory over Juventus as a sign of how much Napoli have improved since Rafa Benitez left.

The Partenopei lost 3-1 home and away last season against the Bianconeri, beating them on penalties in the Italian Super Cup after a 2-2 draw.

Last night Maurizio Sarri’s men ran out 2-1 victors at the Stadio San Paolo with Lorenzo Insigne and Gonzalo Higuain on target.

“We put what the Coach asked for on to the pitch,” Hamsik told Rai Sport.

“We put what the Coach asked for on to the pitch,” Hamsik told Rai Sport.

“I am happy to be much more in the thick of the action compared to last year. I might not reach the goal as often, but I really like this style of football.

“We are a more dynamic and compact side, as compared to last season we play the ball so much more and don’t focus on long balls.”

The criticism of Benitez is evident and also nothing new from Hamsik, who made no secret of how much he appreciates Sarri in comparison.

“I still set myself the target that I want to score 10 goals this season. I like my new position more because I see more of the ball.

Juventus and Napoli confirmed the Turin giants saw their €25m offer for Hamsik rejected this summer.

“It’s true, they wanted me, but I never thought about it. It’s a closed book now. I am concentrated on doing well with this jersey, which I have worn for many years.”
