Napoli’s 3-0 win against Shakhtar on Tuesday means they must beat Feyenoord in their final group game and hope Shakhtar lose to Manchester City for a place in the knockout stages.

“Before the game, it was clear that only a win and three points would spare us,” the midfielder told the club’s official website.

“Of course, we’re happy to be able to overcome the Ukrainians. It was a very difficult match as Shakhtar are a great team.

“We didn’t create much in the first half, and our visitors were well organised in the middle of the park.

“At the beginning of the second half, however, we upped the tempo, and after our first wonderful goal, the game changed.

“After we took the lead, we played better, improved, moved the ball around better and created more chances, from which we scored two more goals.

“I believe in qualification, but it’s not in our hands. Still, we’ll focus on ourselves because we want to win at Feyenoord’s stadium.

“I also hope Manchester City can help us against Shakhtar Donetsk: the English side can do that as they’ll want to win all their matches in the group, and we hope it’ll be the same in Ukraine.”
