Hamsik: ‘I thought I’d scored’

Marek Hamsik “thought I’d scored” for Slovakia when denied by a goal-line clearance in their 2-1 defeat to Wales.

The Napoli midfielder almost got the perfect start to his Euro 2016 after three minutes, dribbling past a series of defenders and beating the goalkeeper, but didn’t count on the desperate Ben Davies block.

“I thought I’d scored with my move at the start of the match,” confessed Hamsik.

“Straight after that, Gareth Bale showed his qualities with a free kick goal. We dominated the match in the second half, but were unable to score a second goal.

“We pressured Wales and created several chances. I don’t know if we can talk about luck for Wales, but it was above all a balanced encounter.”
