Milan legend Ruud Gullit believes the Rossoneri were lucky to score two goals against Liverpool, although the defeat at Anfield Road can help Stefano Pioli’s side.
Gullit spoke to journalists during the Giacinto Facchetti Award in Milan.
A former Milan midfielder, Gullit spent six seasons with the Rossoneri, winning three Serie A titles, three Italian Super Cups, and two Champions League.
The Rossoneri have returned to Europe’s elite competition for the first time in eight years but began their campaign with a 3-2 defeat against Liverpool last week.
However, Pioli’s side are the Serie A table leaders with 10 points in four games. They held Juventus to a 1-1 draw at the Allianz Stadium last night.
“It’s nice to see Milan up there once again,” Gullit said as quoted by Milannews.
“It’s very early in the season, but I think Inter, Juventus, Napoli and Milan can win the title. Of course, I hope Milan will win it.
“I watched the match against Liverpool, they suffered and they were a little lucky to score two goals,” the former midfielder continued.
“However, it is essential to understand how to play in the Champions League, so I believe this game will help Milan going forward.
“Milan are much better than what they had been over the last few years. They had a few problems since Berlusconi left, finally, they’ve taken the right path.”
Gullit’s former teammate Paolo Maldini is playing a crucial role in Milan’s development.
“He is doing a good job and I am pleased somebody I know is working at Milan,” the Dutch legend said.

The 59-year-old also commented on Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s campaign so far. The Swede has only played a few minutes against Lazio, managing to score one goal. He sustained an injury after the game missing Milan’s trip to Turin on Sunday.
However, the Swede has helped Milan massively since returning to the club in 2020. When asked if Ibra should win the Ballon d’Or, Gullit replied: “There are many great players out there, but what he is doing is outstanding. I hope he will win an award to get recognition for what he’s done,” Gullit concluded.
