England captain Steven Gerrard did not take a full part in training yesterday, but remains in line to be fit to face Italy on Saturday.

The Liverpool midfielder worked separately from Roy Hodgson’s main group during Monday’s training session in Rio, struggling with what is reported as a ‘slight groin injury’.

Whilst the 34-year-old will be kept under observation from England medical staff over the week, he is still seen as in line to be fit for the Three Lions’ Group D opener against Italy in Manaus on Saturday evening.
