Marca reports that Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann personally contacted Inter forward Alexis Sanchez, offering his apology for insulting him during a penalty shootout on Wednesday.

The incident happened in the final stages of Inter’s loss to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16 first leg.

Sanchez missed a penalty kick and Griezmann was caught on camera calling the Chile international a ‘sh**bag.’

The video went viral on social media, so, according to Marca, the French international personally contacted Sanchez to apologise for his poor behaviour.

According to the report, Griezmann explained that he got overly excited and that his objective was to encourage his teammate Jan Oblak and not insult an opponent. Sanchez has reportedly accepted Griezmann’s apology.

Griezmann scored the equaliser in the first half, just three minutes after Federico Dimarco’s opener.

On the other hand, Sanchez was introduced as a substitute from the bench during extra time but missed a spot-kick, contributing to Inter’s elimination.
