Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann admitted Milan ‘were superior’ in the Rossoneri’s 1-0 win at the Wanda Metropolitano.

The Rossoneri had to wait until the 87th minute before Junior Messias decided the game, but Griezmann felt the visitors deserved the win on Wednesday.

Champions League | All Italian teams can still qualify

“They studied us well,” Griezmann said, according to Il Corriere dello Sport. “Our match plan didn’t work. Milan were superior.

“We just have to improve and hope to do better in the last match of the group.”

Milan are third in the group, tied on four points with Atletico Madrid, who face FC Porto in the next round of fixtures.

A draw between Atleti and Porto would be the best result for Milan, who need to win against Liverpool to have a chance of qualifying for the last 16 of the Champions League.

  1. In all honesty, I still haven’t quite got over the home defeat to Atleti. Whether Milan go through, go into the Europa league or finish 4th, that home game vs Atleti left us with a real sense of bitterness. The woeful referees eagerness to send Kessie off to the absolutely diabolical penalty (Atleti player handling the ball first).

As for Atleti – very confused to say the least. This is a club that has reached the quarter finals or more in the champions league 5 out of the last 6 seasons. Yet from the first minute, they were literally playing for 0-0. Milan lacked sharpness, cutting edge and creativity to cut through their lines, but my god, it was so congested in the middle areas. They were defending with their entire team, and just hoping for something to break on counters. Add to that, the play acting and simulations on the part of Koke and De Paul especially….absolute embarrassment.

  2. Whether Milan progress to the next stage or not, we’re not going to win the CL with the strikers we currently have, Giroud looks aged and immobile and didn’t make the runs the stretch the Athleti back line enough – I hope we have witnessed the birth of a new underdog talisman, Junior Messias?

Diaz looks brilliant and Tonali ran the show, almost Pirlo-esqe. This is a REAL team and with a decent striker/goalie, I hope we can become a real force to reckon with in the next few years. I just hope our team doesn’t get picked apart by these so called ‘bigger clubs’ (i hate to say it) at the end of the season. Theo must be our MVP and Daiz, Tonali, Kalou on the other wing were immense as they have been all season.

Why don’t we want Europa? We actually have a chance of winning silverware?!
