Marseille fans have started a campaign against the signing of Mason Greenwood, while Lazio President Claudio Lotito warns that the Biancocelesti have targeted a player who is ‘ten times better’ than the Manchester United winger.

Roberto De Zerbi’s Marseille have sent an opening offer to sign Greenwood from Manchester United, but several supporters of the French club on social media are taking a position against the potential purchase of the English winger.

The hashtag #Greenwoodnotwelcome has gone viral on social media, especially on X, formerly Twitter.

Greenwood was charged with attempted rape in 2022 and even if prosecutors dropped the case against him the following year, several Marseille fans don’t want to see the Englishman play for their club and have voiced their discontent on social media.

Greenwood has also been linked with Juventus and Lazio, but Bianconcelesti president Claudio Lotito has suggested that he will be looking elsewhere for attacking reinforcements.

During the unveiling press conference of new coach Marco Baroni on Monday, Lotito said: “I had signed Greenwood last year, but the deal collapsed due to the misalignment of the two transfer windows [in Italy and England]. Now I have a name that is ten times better.”
