The FIGC President Gabriele Gravina said he hopes ‘to be able to mediate between Juventus and UEFA’ after the Super League controversy.

The Federcalcio President spoke to RAI’s Radio Anch’io Sport and spoke about his proposal to cut costs in football.

“Today, the world of football has reached the €5bn debt threshold, we have to start putting costs under control,” Gravina told Radio Rai.

“I took the liberty of saying that for the 2021-22 season we will make a recommendation, which will be included in the regulations of the individual leagues, not to exceed the cost threshold of the 2020-21 season and then hypothesise a reduction of costs from 10 to 20 per cent per year in subsequent seasons.”

Gravina was asked about the possibility of Juventus being excluded from Serie A and pointed at the ‘clear principles’ that must be respected.

“Those who don’t respect the principles to which they must be inspired,” Gravina continued. “They are simple principles, affirmed by the Olympic Charter and then reported by the statutes of national and international federations.

“They are clear principles, in which the exclusivity of sport management is established. I hope and hope that this dispute can be resolved as soon as possible.

“We are all a bit tired of this tug-of-war between UEFA and these three clubs. I hope to be able to mediate between Juventus and UEFA.

“It’s not good for international football, Italian football, Juventus. We have already said that the football association respects the rules.

“The rules foresee the non-participation in our championship if the principles established by the federation and UEFA are not accepted.”
