The Azzurrini are the host nation, yet also drawn in the Group of Death with Spain, Belgium and Poland.
“Spain as the opening game is an important clash that immediately gives an idea of the difficulty of this tournament,” Gravina told Rai Sport.

“Spain as the opening game is an important clash that immediately gives an idea of the difficulty of this tournament,” Gravina told Rai Sport.
“We must be aware of just how tough it is. Spain inevitably draw attention, but we’ll be able to give our best against any opponent, including Spain.
“The format where the group winners and the best runners-up go through to the knockouts is not simple, but we want to do our best.
“I hope this European Under-21 Championship can be a rehearsal for even more important events in Italy.”
Gravina was asked if players who have made the step up to the senior squad, such as Federico Chiesa, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Nicolò Barella, will be made available to the Under-21s for this competition in June 2019.
“There is close collaboration between (senior Italy CT Roberto) Mancini and Di Biagio. Everyone knows how important an objective this is for the FIGC, as Italy haven’t won the Under-21 Euros since 2004.
“We will respect both roles and requirements of all concerned.”
