FIGC President Gabriele Gravina admits Italy ‘aren’t starting in pole position,’ but can go far in Euro 2020.

The Azzurri are in Group A with Turkey – who they play in the opening match on Friday – Switzerland and Wales.

“The Nazionale aren’t starting in pole position, because there are so many impressive teams in the competition,” Gravina told news agency ANSA.

“We go into this tournament with the belief we’ve started a new project and the energy and enthusiasm of the lads, which should allow us to have a good journey.”

The opening ceremony will also be at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, with 16,000 fans present.

“This is a message of hope and it’ll be emotional to see so many people in the Stadio Olimpico while the game is beamed all over the world. It’s a message of hope for everyone.”
