FIGC President Gabriele Gravina said ‘the return of Calcio is a message of hope for the entire country,’ as the Coppa Italia is set for June 13, Serie A and B from June 20.

The announcement was made by Minister for Sport Vincenzo Spadafora, while Lega Serie B President Mauro Balata released a statement confirming they too are ready to go from June 20.

“The return of Calcio represents a message of hope for the entire country,” said Football Federation chief Gravina.

“I am happy and satisfied with the outcome. It’s a success we share with the Minister for Sport Spadafora and all the Federation components. Our project is one of great responsibility, because it involves the entire professional football world in Italy, with Serie A, B, C and hopefully also women’s Serie A.”

Meetings will be held tomorrow to decide on the precise dates and which games will be played first.

There are several ‘games in hand’ to be caught up in Serie A from Week 25, as they were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic when it was still localised in only some regions.

It remains to be seen if those are played first or kept for later.
