Salernitana could get automatic promotion on Monday, whereas Pescara are already relegated to Serie C.

“Salernitana 1919 condemn the offensive and intimidatory behaviour against the family of Pescara coach Gianluca Grassadonia,” an official Salernitana announcement reads.

“A football match, although important and decisive, cannot trigger such manifestations of verbal violence. Everything must remain within the context of sport,” it continues.

“Unfortunately, while U.S. Salernitana 1919 make a maximum effort to try to achieve a historic goal and give an immense joy to our fans, there are still those who dishonour the name of the club and the city with devious manoeuvres inspired by purely personal interests.”

Pescara have also released an official statement to condemn what happened and to support their coach and his family, while Grassadonia’s wife wrote on Facebook, they will move away from Salerno.

“After five days of insults and threats towards our family, we can’t tolerate what happened last night,” the message reads.

“Our daughter, who has just turned 18, was assaulted and threatened with pushes and kicks so that her father can understand, only for a football game.

“We hope that these criminals, who are far away from being fans, will be identified as soon as possible.

“We thank all those who supported us in these sad hours, but it’s clear our life will continue far from Salerno. We hope that civilization and respect can become the prerogative of all.”
