The Italian Government is reportedly working on a deal to help Serie A, B and C clubs postpone and spread out payment of taxes and emoluments to the tune of €480m.

The sector is still struggling from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, which saw stadiums shut down for a year and revenues crash.

According to La Repubblica, the new Italian Government is planning an amendment that will allow football clubs in the professional divisions to postpone the payment of various taxes and emoluments.

They had already been postponed from last year and the deadline was coming up on December 15.

The payment will be spread out in instalments over the course of a five-year period.

It is reported the amendment was proposed and worked on by Lazio President Claudio Lotito.

However, Fiorentina chief Rocco Commisso was against the plan, because it helps those clubs who are in debt and in his view therefore penalises teams like the Viola who have balanced books.
