“It’s a terrible week in terms of results, as everything that could go wrong, did go wrong,” Gotti told DAZN, referring also to a 2-0 loss against 10-man Spezia.
“Having said that, I also see we are on the right track. We’ve got a packed treatment room and many players are lagging behind on their fitness levels, but what I see in training and the new arrivals do give me hope.”
There was already a vast improvement in performance this evening with Roberto Pereyra in the starting XI following his return from Watford.
“I get the feeling we can head in a different direction from recent years, with a focus more on quality. We have to build our tactics around our most important players and make it a functional squad to suit their characteristics.
“We lost three games because we made mistakes. It’s a pity that the Roma goal came from such an obvious individual error, but if we look at the big picture, this is a team that wants to play football. At times, we’ll pay for that, at others we’ll reap the benefits.”
Speaking to Udinese TV, Gotti also confirmed the possible return of Ignacio Pussetto, who joined Watford for €8m in January.
